PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley says Trinidad and Tobago has an independent approach to the upcoming US Presidential elections in November and it will not affect his government’s conduct of foreign affairs.
During a press conference at Whitehall on Friday, Dr Rowley was asked to comment on the implications of a change in the US administration, particularly if the control were to swing from President Joe Biden to a Republican figure such as Donald Trump.
He said his government will navigate its relations with the US regardless of who resides in the Oval Office.
“We still have our work to do,” Dr. Rowley said.
Dr Rowley said previous visits to the US saw the government engaging with numerous Republican leaders, where support was found on multiple fronts, including Trinidad and Tobago’s significant ammonia production sector.
He said, “So we’re not out there picking favorites. We do have friends that put us in a better position and we also have friends in China, Europe, and Australia.”
