Port of Spain — A dual citizen of the United States and Trinidad and Tobago has been extradited to face charges of crimes against children in Pennsylvania.

Farzan Mohammed was extradited on Wednesday to Pennsylvania, where he faces 128 counts of sex crime offences against minors. The charges, which include rape, sexual assault, and child pornography, could result in a sentence exceeding 40 years.

After being charged in June 2023, Mohammed fled to Trinidad and Tobago. A warrant for his arrest was issued in Pennsylvania, prompting US law enforcement to request his provisional arrest. Mohammed was apprehended in South Trinidad on April 9, 2024.

His legal challenge against extradition was dismissed by the T&T Court of Appeal in September 2024, leading to his custody pending extradition. On October 4, Attorney General Reginald Armour signed the Warrant of Removal.

The extradition operation involved a coordinated effort among multiple agencies, including the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Office of the Attorney General, Customs and Immigration, and the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago. U.S. agencies such as the U.S. Marshal Services, Diplomatic Security Service, Customs and Border Protection, DEA, and FBI also played crucial roles, a release by the US Embassy in Port of Spain stated.

US Ambassador Candace Bond praised the partnership, stating, “This latest extradition once again highlights the excellent and productive working relationship we currently enjoy between our US federal law enforcement team at the embassy and all elements of Trinidad and Tobago law enforcement. We have made great strides together in our joint efforts to address crime in both our countries and bringing criminals to justice is the epitome of this success. We look forward to continuing this great partnership and many more successes like this one to come.”
