THERE will be the a total shut down of the Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) from 10 pm on Saturday to 9 am on Sunday.

This according to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) in a release on Monday.

It stated that this shutdown is to facilitate upgrade work at the T&TEC’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) TGU.

The release stated, “Customers are further advised that the two other IPPs (PowerGen and Contour Global Trinity Power) have, and will make available the required capacity to satisfy the expected load demand of the island during those hours.

“However, should these IPPs suffer any loss of generation during TGU’s shutdown, it may result in T&TEC having to shed load and, consequently, a temporary loss of electricity supply to some customers.

“T&TEC assures its customers that it will work closely with TGU and its other Independent Power Producers to ensure that, in the unlikely event any loss of supply occurs, the disruption will be minimal. Customers in Tobago will not be affected by this planned shutdown.”
