ALMOST all of the other CARICOM countries have surged ahead of Trinidad and Tobago when it comes to vaccinating their populations against Covid-19.
This according to Davendranath Tancoo at the United National Congress media briefing on Sunday.
He said, “In early May 2020, the Minister of Health boasted of an Oxford (University) study which ranked T&T first in the world in preparedness to lift its lockdown measures.
“You will recall as well, him stating that the country was doing very well and other countries worldwide was now looking at T&T’s performance as lessons for their own development.”
Tancoo added, “Well the fact is that today, almost all of these CARICOM countries… are now looking back at us. They are no longer look at us for the way forward.”
He said they have surged ahead because of Government’s incompetence and bungling in dealing with the entire issue of vaccinations.
The Opposition MP said other CARICOM countries wrote to India Prime Minster Narendra Modi asking for support to save their citizens and economies in the midst of the pandemic.
He said, “Barbados PM Mia Mottley revealed that she wrote and was successful in receiving some 100,000 doses.
“I would not dwell on the fact that the Minister of Health was clueless about the origins of the vaccines that he was boasting about, and subsequently embarrassed himself and the Country with his misinformation.
“Suffice it to say every other CARICOM country has already received a supply from India.”
He added, “One hundred and forty citizens have died from Covid and it is safe to say that every citizen and every single business has been adversely affect directly by the pandemic.”
