VALENCIA – A suspect in the murder of a police officer has been killed in a shootout with police in Valencia on Friday.
Reports stated that Michael Thomas was killed after he shot at officers from inside a house at Valencia around 7 p.m. on Friday.
He was wanted in connection with the murder of PC Nicholas Victor who was killed on Christmas Eve while off-duty and performing a private security job at Rainbow Supermarket in Kelly Village, Caroni.
Police Commissioner Gary Griffith coordinated the operation with the Special Operations Team (SORT) headed by Sgt Mark Hernandez.
Thomas was wounded after the shootout and taken to the Arima District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police sources said they recovered Victor’s firearm which was stolen after he was killed.
Victor was the third police officer to be shot and killed over the last two months following the murders of Corporal Fox and Sargeant Roger Williams.
Police said they were searching for two other suspects wanted for Victor’s killing.
