A 22-year-old Arima man who alleged snatched some items off a pensioner in Arima on Monday was held by police in a church.
Reports indicated that around 9.30 am on November 6, 2023, PCs Phillips, Padmore, and Vidale were on foot patrol duty in Arima when they received a report of larceny from a 67-year-old Talparo man.
The officers immediately went in search of the suspect and found a man hiding on the roof of a building on Rose Street.
They called out to him, however, the man jumped off the roof and ran into a yard nearby. The officers gave chase, searched the premises and surrounding areas, and found the suspect hiding at a church compound on St Joseph Street.
He was arrested and a search of the area led to the recovery of a pouch containing a quantity of TT currency and an Apple iPhone valued at TT$5,000.
Nicholas Breedy, 22, of Anglican Street, Arima was taken to the Arima Police Station and formally charged for larceny from the person by PC Phillips.
