TRINBAGO Knight Riders (TKR) boss Shah Rukh Khan expresses his love and congratulations to his team for capturing a fourth consecutive Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title.
The Bollywood star took to social media to express his gratitude for the team who played the series without the usual packed stadiums.
Khan posted on Instagram: “Ami TKR we rule. Awesome display boys…u make us proud, happy and make us party even without a crowd. Love u team. Love you how many now 4!!!. Thank you Trinidad and Tobago and the @cpl2020 for the tournament.”
He also tagged several of the cricketers in his post.
The TKR is the first team to win the competition without giving up a point. They ended the season with 12 wins from the same number of games.
TKR beat the St Lucia Zouks by eight wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday to catch a fourth title.
Corporate Communications Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Francis Joseph, visited the venue on Thursday and said everything from a security standpoint went well.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith is the Chairman of the Security Council for the CPL.
The games were played under strict Covid-19 protocols with no flag-waving fans and separate sections for players, ground staff and security members. A venue operations centre was set up and consisted of police officers, soldiers and fire officers.
Joseph told AZPNews.com, “Everything went smoothly in terms of security. People adhered to protocols.”
The CPL originally was planned to be held in several Caribbean countries but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all the matches were played in Trinidad and Tobago at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. No spectators were allowed. All players and team assistants were tested upon arrival and self-quarantined at Hilton Hotel, Port-of-Spain.
By weekend, players should leave Trinidad. Travel arrangements are being made by CPL to accommodate the players especially those who will be going to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to play in the Indian Premier League, Joseph said.
The IPL officially opens on September 19 with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
