WITH several landslides occurring in many parts of the country over the weekend, some roads are currently impassable.
The Ministry of Works and Transport is advising the public that the following roadways are temporarily closed to vehicular traffic:
• Southern Main Road, in the vicinity of Nathaniel Crichlow Drive (near UTT Valsayn Campus) to Caroni Roundabout;
• North Coast Road, 18km mark, in the vicinity of Zorro Road;
• Brasso Caparo Station Road, in the vicinity of the 3.2km mark, Gran Couva; and
• Couva Road, in the vicinity of the 12.5km mark, Gran Couva-Alternative access is available through Batchasingh Road;
This is in addition to the Manzanilla Mayaro Road and the Lady Young Road. Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan said that the Lady Young will be opened during the day but closed at nights for repairs.
The ministry stated in a public notice on Monday,“It has become necessary to close these roads in the interest of road user safety and to commence the necessary remedial and stabilisation works to restore access and connectivity.”
Motorists are advised to proceed with extreme caution and observe all directional signs and barriers, follow instructions from police officers on-site to facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic and be aware of heavy equipment entering and exiting the work zone.
The Ministry of Works and Transport apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for its cooperation.
On Sunday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) also asked motorists to be cautious while on the roadways.
