ALL schools are expected to re-open on Friday.

This is according to Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Faris Al-Rawi.

At a virtual press conference on Thursday, the minister although he warned citizens to be cautious for the rest of the day due to rising flood waters, he said there will be school normalcy by Friday.

He said, “Schools are on. Schools are going to be in gear. There is a regular flow of schools tomorrow for sure unless advised otherwise.”

In defending why the announcement that schools were closed was made at 7 am on Thursday when many were already on their way to school, Al-Rawi said Trinidad and Tobago was not dealing with an organised weather system but “ a lot of rain.”

He said, “We could not anticipate what would happen. We have to prepare but you can’t just cancel school just like that.”

Coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, Al-Rawi said that Government has to proceed carefully with how schools are operated.

“If we have to close schools every time we have a yellow alert we are going to be in trouble because we are in a hurricane season,” he said.
