Schools Close Early Thursday for Modi’s Visit

ALL schools in Trinidad will be closed early on Thursday to accommodate the visit to Trinidad and Tobago by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.
A memorandum was issued on Tuesday to all schools’ principals informing them of the early closing time of 11.30 am.
The memorandum was sent by the chief education officer and was confirmed by the Ministry of Education to AZP News.

The memorandum stated, “This measure will assist in reducing the traffic volume on the Churchill Roosevelt, Uriah Butler and the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway as well as other major roadways, thereby minimising traffic congestion.
“This decision has been made in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and is designed to ensure the security of students, staff and the general public during this high-level event.”

Normal school operations will resume on Friday.
Modi is expected to arrive on Thursday at the Piarco International Airport at 3.45 pm for a two-day visit.
