YOUNG women will soon become the leaders of tomorrow and should be equipped with the necessary skills to continue to work towards building a more sustainable future for all.
It was for this reason that the Roxborough Police Youth Club in Tobago hosted a session last Saturday entitled “Our Time to Shine” in recognition of International Women’s Day today.
Speakers included Civil Engineer Kelsey Touissant-Reid, Dietician Ronique Thomas, athlete Safiya John, and Livestock Scientist Dr Melissa Williams-Reid. The event was also attended by Secretary for Health, Wellness and Social Protection Dr Faith B.Yisrael.
“The Roxborough Police Youth Club is hosting this event under the theme, ‘Our Time to Shine’ with four amazing speakers that stand bold in their field. We want to encourage women to empower themselves,” project assistant Kaneisha Toussaint said.
The event was geared towards women ages 15 to 35 and was held at the youth club’s location on Bloody Bay Road, Roxborough.
The Information Department of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) stated, “It remains important that young women are encouraged to become leaders as this helps in creating change. One way this can be done is by encouraging the participation of girls and women in training programmes and sessions that build awareness and encourage leadership, gender equality, and more inclusive decision-making.”
The Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection also encouraged all to show support for women by wearing purple on Tuesday.
March 8 has been carded as International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is “Break the Bias.”
