THE Political leader of the People’s National Movement Dr Keith Rowley says promises without solutions will bring more hardship for Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking on Saturday at the PNM’s Big Red Rally at Eddie Hart Grounds, Tacarigua, he said, “One thing short in this sea of promises is solutions to the problems.”

Rowley said, “You hear this lady that is opposed to me, she could count all who kill who. That doesn’t me how you are going to prevent the next killer from killing the next victim.”

He warned on promises that, too be fulfilled, would result in more hardship for the nation’s citizens.

Rowley attacked the Opposition’s promise of a 14% salary increase for public servants, which he said would cost $18 billion in backpay.

He said Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not say how her government would fund this increase.

Rowley said the only way this and her other costly promises could be achieved was through the devaluation of the TT dollar. He lamented that this would mean further financial hardships for citizens, because even with increased salaries, many items would still be too expensive due to the exchange rate.

He urged voters to look at the slates being put forward by both parties, saying on the red side you have young leadership and on the yellow retrograde leadership.

Rowley said the PNM had a qualified team, that was a mixture of youth and experience, which is what is needed to take TT in the future.

He cautioned voters not be swayed by promises, saying, “You have a sacred responsibility not to allow any unqualified person to hold that office; because after you vote on the 28 April, if you make the mistake of putting the wrong person, if you think you were in the frying pan will all the complaints and all the promises then you will be in the blazing fire.”
