PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley is pained by the deaths of several babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Port of Spain General Hospital (PoSGH).
He made this comment at the opening of the new Sangre Grande Hospital Campus on Wednesday. This was his first pubic appearance since returning from vacation in Ireland.
Dr Rowley said, “As Prime Minister, I simply want to know what happened in the Port of Spain General Hospital. It is easy to take the easy way route and to say things that are not supported by facts. We as a nation, we need facts. We need to know and we would leave no stone unturned to find out what happened in the Port of Spain General Hospital.”
He added, “It can only be made better by finding out what actually happened. We can only do better by finding out, but there are processes that have to be followed and I say to the nation—let us have the investigation.”
Rowley said the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) was invited to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
