ONE AK 47 Zastavastyle rifle made in Serbia and one magazine, have been found amongst food and canned items by police.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service reported on Saturday that officers of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) responded to a call from Customs and Excise officers on the discovery of illicit drugs, a gun and a magazine.
The discovery was made around 1 pm last Friday, at the Medway Custom Bond, Southern Main Road, St. Marys Junction, Freeport.
According to police reports, SIU officers responded to the call and upon arrival and examining a barrel they discovered 13.2 kilogrammes of marijuana, one AK 47 Zastavastyle rifle made in Serbia and one magazine.
Officers of the Central Division are currently investigating to determine the consignee of the illegal items.
The exhibits were seized and taken for processing. Investigations are ongoing.
Camouflage clothing seized
Additionally, officers of the Western Division and Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch (THPB) conducted exercises which led to the arrest of three suspects and the discovery of a Taurus firearm, more than 80 rounds of ammunition and camouflage clothing, in another report.
Police reports also indicated that other persons were arrested and charged for driving under the influence, while several motorists were ticketed for traffic offenses ranging from excessive speeding, not wearing a seat belt while driving and using a mobile device while driving during the operation.
Western Division and the THPB officers are continuing investigations.
