OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is asking if two returning officers for the Local Government Election (LGE) are registered members of the People’s National Movement (PNM).

She was speaking at a United National Congress (UNC) political meeting in Penal on Monday she said, “John Mark George and Lorette Hope McDonald are registered PNM members and returning officers in San Fernando City Corporation.”

Persad-Bissessar promised, “Before the week is done, we will expose all of them working!”

She further asked if George was related to House Speaker Brigid Annisette-George and her husband Newman George.

Naming the areas where those returning officers were placed, Persad-Bissessar said they were placed in critical San Fernando seats.

“All of these are hotly contested marginal seats,” she said.

“Are you on a PNM registered members list?” Persad-Bissessar asked those returning officers.

She further said, “And if you are, you have to declare a conflict of interest.”

Persad-Bissessar told supporters to be very alert and agents placed in those stations “put them under manners.”

“Light them up,” she said.

The opposition leader also said she requested the names of the presiding officers and deputy presiding officers promising to “light them up” if they were in conflict of interest as well.

She said senior persons in the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) were closely affiliated with Government with one allegedly receiving millions in legal briefs.

Persad-Bissessar repeated her call to have international election observers.

“Bring in international election observers because this government is desperate,” she said
