A letter dated on Sunday addressed to Persad-Bissessar stated that it was written by Rambally who said he was concerned with Parliamentary developments in which Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley insinuated that Opposition parliamentarians were involved in human trafficking.

The letter was shared on social media.

The letter stated that according to former UNC government minister Devant Maharaj, an investigation was carried  out “and a person who is an alleged human trafficker is indeed a current UNC MP.”

The letter further stated that another UNC MP has been going to other constituencies and “trying to undermine MPS” and that MP was allegedly involved in human trafficking.

According to Dr Rowley, based on the United States Trafficking in Persons Report July 2020 and July 2022, allegations were investigated and it did refer to current members of Parliament, “none of which is on the government’s side.”

However, in a media release on Saturday, Persad-Bissessar that the report in 2020 clearly stated ‘senior government officials’.”
