WITH only 10 days remaining for property tax payments, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said that the government is considering an extension.
The announcement was made in Parliament on Friday, with Imbert stating that the new deadline would be revealed on Monday, September 23.
Additionally, Imbert confirmed plans to introduce an online payment system by the end of October, allowing citizens to pay via bank transfers and credit cards. In the meantime, taxpayers can continue using alternative methods such as personal cheques, manager’s cheques, and Linx at District Offices.
The announcement came in response to a query from Naparima MP Rodney Charles, who inquired about the government’s efforts to enhance the current payment options.
There have been long lines at Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) offices with people wanting for hours to pay their taxes.
Police said criminals have been targeting people withdrawing cash to pay their property taxes.
