A PRISONS Officer I attached to the Port-of-Spain Prison, was held with a quantity of contraband, including marijuana and cigarettes, during a random search on Wednesday night.
Police reported on Thursday that the search was conducted around 9.30pm during which the 35-year-old officer with eight years’ service, went outside the precincts of the prison and returned with a black bag. A search of the bag and the officer resulted in prisons officials finding 637 grammes of marijuana, 23 packets of cigarettes and three packets of wrapping paper. Officers of the Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were contacted and took the suspect to the Central Police Station.
And in an unrelated incident, a police officer attached to the Valencia Criminal Investigations Department has been arrested after allegedly making threats to kill his wife and their two-year-old daughter.
The woman reported to police that she was at the Sangre Grande home of her mother with her daughter around 8.20pm, when her 31-year-old husband arrived and took the child away.
She said she called him on his cellphone and during the conversation he made threats to kill her and the child. A report was made to the Sangre Grande Police Station and an investigation was launched into the incident. The suspect was later arrested by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit.
A firearm and a Firearm Users’ License were also seized from his possession.
Investigations are ongoing into the two incidents.
