Dr Parasram said medical practitioners are to report positive Covid-19 cases to the office of the CMO under Regulation 13 of Public Health Ordinance.

He also said that cases were not always being reported to his office and the relevant regional health authority.

Dr Parasram read part of the clause.

“Where a private medical lab or a medical practitioner does such testing on a person or a medical practitioner refers a person for such testing, the result of such a positive result should be referred to the office of the Chief Medical Officer and the regional health authority. ”

The penalty on summary conviction is a fine of $250,000 and six months imprisonment.

The CMO again encouraged all to get vaccinated and get back to basics by adhering to all health and safety protocols especially as there is a surge in positive cases.

He said the ministry has used many avenues to get the population vaccinated, including having mass vaccination sites, administering a vaccine at all 109 health centres and outreach to homes and commercial centres.

Dr Parasram was also asked about the types of vaccine administered to persons who passed away as a result of Covid-19 or who have ended up in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He said while data will be collected, he said AstraZeneca was the first vaccine to be administered to the population in the vaccination programme followed by the Sinopharm then Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson.

He noted 63% of the vaccine administered in Trinidad and Tobago was Sinophram.
