ONE man is shot dead by police and another wounded after they stole a car on Tuesday.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated the incident occurred at the Croisee in San Juan when officers of the North Central Task Force intercepted suspected car thieves.
According to police reports, around 6.30 pm, on Tuesday, two men clad in dark clothing, with their faces covered, one being armed with a firearm, robbed a 58-year-old man of Bon Air North, of his grey Nissan Wingroad vehicle.
During the incident, the assailants dealt the man several blows about his body.
The vehicle was intercepted and the occupants opened fire on the officers, who in keeping with the TTPS Use of Force Policy returned fire, the release stated.
After the shooting, the two suspects who were found to be injured were taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
However, one suspect succumbed to his injuries around 7.25 pm on while the other suspect, 18, is receiving medical treatment.
The officers also recovered one firearm at the scene of the incident.
