Police in Full Force for THA Elections

ACTING Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suzette Martin says there is  high police presence on Monday for  Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections.

In an audio statement on Monday, ACP Martin assured the voting public that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) was fully deployed throughout the island and committed to ensuring a safe and orderly election process.

Martin said, “Police officers are positioned at all polling stations with mobile patrols, tactical operational teams and reserve units on standby.”

She said, as of the start of voting, there had been no disturbances.

Martin said, “At this time, there are no reports of any major incidents or disruptions, the voting process has commenced smoothly, and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is working closely with the Election and Boundaries Commission and other partner agencies.”

“We encourage voters to remain calm, patient and respectful of election officials and fellow citizens,” she added.

Martin reminded members of the public that TTPS maintained a position of neutrality in the election process.

She said, “We remind all members of the public that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service remains strictly neutral.”

“Our role is to protect the democratic process, maintain public order and ensure that every citizen can exercise their right to vote freely and safely,” she added.

Martin said the TTPS stood ready to respond swiftly to any situation and would continue to provide updates throughout the day.

The 2026 THA elections were called following the dissolution of the THA on 12 November 2025, by THA leader and Political Leader of the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) Farley Chavez Augustine.

According to information provided by the EBC there were a total of 42 candidates, representing four political parties, contesting the 15 THA electoral districts.

The TTP was contesting all electoral districts with 15 candidates.

The People’s National Movement (PNM) was also contesting all electoral districts with 15 candidates.

The Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) was contesting 11 electoral districts, and the Unity of the People, was contesting 1 electoral district.
