STRICTER measures are coming to prevent people from dumping garbage in the communities in which they live.
One of those measures is the more prominent presence of litter wardens said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday.
Giving a report on her government’s 100 days in office in Couva, Persad-Bissessar said it couldn’t possibly be “ghosts” dumping garbage.
“Isn’t it human beings dumping in their own neigbourhood?” she asked.

Persad-Bissessar said she told Attorney General John Jeremie, “We have to get back the litter wardens and lock up those people who dumping garbage all over the country.”
She also spoke about a video of a man showing off grass growing in front of his yard.
“That is in front your own house. If you cannot clean in front your own house then heaven help us!” Persad-Bissessar said.
“Some of us have become too lazy and greedy. Cut your grass in front your own home. Dump your garbage in either the Beetham dump or other dumps, don’t drive up in front of somebody road and dump your garbage. We are human beings in Trinidad and Tobago, not animals,” she told citizens.
While there are laws guarding against littering, it is not very often that a person is charged for the act.
