THE MRI machine at the Scarborough General Hospital has malfunctioned and has been down for several months.
This according to the Tobago House of Assembly Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine at a virtual media briefing on Tuesday.
The Office of the Prime Minister posted of its Facebook page last Wednesday that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley who is Covid-19 positive had received an MRI scan at the Scarborough General Hospital.
Davidson-Celestine cleared up the issue on Tuesday. She said, “The MRI machine has been down for several months, as a matter of fact it has malfunctioned at the start of the Covid. I think it was sometime in June 2020.
“So the scan the prime minister would have received was a CT scan as opposed to a scan from the MRI machine.
“The refurbishment of the MRI machine commenced since December 2020. It is a very sensitive machine and it will take sometime (to repair). The first assessment has since started and since that assessment parts were procured. I think they were shipped in from Germany and the gradient coil and other parts which were procured must be inserted before other refurbishment works commence.”
