PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says she’s committed to a plan for the refinery at Pointe-a-Pierre for the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago.
She posted this on X, after meeting with Chairman of the Refinery Reactivation Committee Kevin Ramnarine and his team at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s on Friday.
Persad-Bissessar said, “Today I met with the Refinery Reactivation Committee at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s to review the latest developments on restarting the Petrotrin refinery. I gave my commitment to transparency, national benefit, and ensuring that Trinidad and Tobago advances with a refinery plan that truly serves our people. Further updates will be shared as discussions progress.”
Also at the meeting with Minister of Energy Dr Roodal Moonilal.

• Former Petrotrin vice president of finance, Shariba Ali Rajah;
• Former vice president of retail and marketing, Kelvin Harnanan;
• Former refinery manager, Gowtam Maharaj (Current Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation);
• UWI lecturer in engineering/maintenance, Kishore Jagroo;
• Operations and Process engineer, Leslie Chang;
• OWTU branch president, Christopher Jackman;
• Electrical systems/former OWTU monthly representative, Danny Goolcharan;
• Planning and Economics Scheduling commercial port marine manager, Margaret De Silva Okando;
• Energy Ministry senior chemical engineer, Yashee Carrington;
• Energy Ministry chemical engineer, Anuskha Benny-Sookoo; and
• Port, marine and shipping expert, Len Chan Chow
The former Petrotrin refinery was shutdown in 2018 by the previous People’s National Movement (PNM) administration and the committee was set up in July.
