AHEAD of their warm-up match against Australia at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Thursday evening, West Indies T20 squad for the ICC World Cup had a training session at the University of the West Indies Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) ground in St Augustine on Wednesday afternoon.

Among those training were players returning from the Indian Premier League (IPL) including captain Rovman Powell, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer.

West Indies coach Daren Sammy paid close attention to his charges as batmen like Pooran had the few spectators ducking for cover as he hit several balls out of the field.

While there was a drizzle at times, the few people watching the session speculated about whether rain would affect the game with Australia as it is being played on the Corpus Christi Holiday, a day associated with rainfall.

The ICC T20 World Cup is being held in the USA and Caribbean with the first game on Saturday with the Americans taking on Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.

Two-time champs West Indies start their campaign on Sunday at the Providence Stadium in Guyana against Papua New Guinea.
