THE funeral of the late Basdeo Panday will take place at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) on Tuesday.
This was confirmed by government sources who said they were liaising with the family to formalise time and further arrangements.
Panday, the fifth prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago who died on Monday, will be afforded a state funeral.
He died in Florida where he went to seek medical treatment. He was 90.
The government has formed a committee headed by Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Communications Symon de Nobriga and Minister of Social Development and Family Services to look after the State-funeral arrangements.
Dr Browne was at the Piarco International Airport on Wednesday night to meet with Panday’s wife Oma and daughter Mickela who accompanied the body aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight.
The body arrived before 8 pm and was taken in a Dass Funeral home hearse.
Condolences books have been opened at the Red House, the Tobago House of Assembly and regional corporations across the country.
Government sources said the body will also lie in state before the funeral on Tuesday.
