Paul Shines at UCI Track Champions League

YVELINES, France-Trinidad and Tobago’s Nicholas Paul made an impressive start to the 2024 UCI Track Champions League, securing third place overall in the men’s sprint standings after competing in two events at the Velodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in France on November 23.

Paul’s performance included a third-place finish in the sprint and a fifth-place result in the keirin during the opening round of the prestigious series.

The competition was dominated by England’s Matthew Richardson, a three-time Paris Olympic medalist, who triumphed in the sprint final.

He was closely followed by Dutch powerhouse Harrie Lavreysen, the reigning Olympic, UCI World, and European sprint champion.

Richardson and Lavreysen also showcased their supremacy in the keirin, finishing in the top two spots, with Colombia’s Kevin Quintero and Cristian Ortega placing third and fourth, respectively.

Paul’s fifth-place finish in the keirin further solidified his strong start to the series.

With the first leg now complete, the next rounds of the UCI Track Champions League will shift to Omnisport Apeldoorn in the Netherlands on November 29 and 30, followed by the final two rounds at Lee Valley Velopark in England on December 6. (CMC)
