FINANCE Minister Colm Imbert is being called upon to confirm if he was indeed purchasing a generator at PriceSmart during the nationwide blackout last Wednesday.
Member of Parliament for Princes Town Barry Padarath made the call on Sunday during the Opposition media briefing and referred to a photograph being shared on social media with Imbert purportedly making the purchase at around 4.30 pm.
Padarath said it was distasteful that to date there have been no statements made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on the matter.
Dr Rowley is in Doha at a gas conference.
Padarath said, “If that photograph was taken, then the Minister of Finance knew and members of the Cabinet knew what was happening in Trinidad and Tobago and in a self-serving act sought to protect the luxury and the confidence of his family and himself as opposed to seeing after the needs of the people of Trinidad and Tobago… that is the DNA of the People’s National Movement (PNM) to always put themselves and their party ahead of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
The MP said the occurrence on Wednesday had serious repercussions including security and yet still, the relevant government ministers seemed clueless as to how to deal with the situation and the possibility of it occurring again.
AZPNew.com contacted Imber via WhatsApp for a comment on the matter. No reply was yet received.
