TRINIDAD and Tobago is now under orange level alerts for the weather and rivers.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) at 8 am issued both orange alerts today (Sunday, November 27, 2022).
The TTMS stated in its third weather alert over the weekend that rainfall and/or showers of varying intensities are expected to continue throughout the course of today, especially during the afternoon.
There is still a 70% -to 80% (high) chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms with potential rainfall greater than 25mm and in excess of this amount in isolated areas.
Gusty winds in excess of 55 km/h may be experienced especially in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms.
In its second riverine alert, the TTMS stated that river levels are currently near or above threshold values in some parts along the major and minor watercourses with flooding ongoing in some areas.
Due to the heavy rainfall over the next 12 to 24 hours, the volume of already overwhelmed water courses could be further increased and over spilling of banks is expected, the TTMS stated.
The TTMS cautioned, “There is now a high risk to public safety, livelihood and property in communities surrounding these watercourses,”
The population is also asked to take note that runoff will be slow at high tide, which will be at 6.24 pm today 7.51 am and 7.23 pm on Monday.
