MINISTER in the Ministry of Energy Ernesto Kesar has paid a visit to Heritage Petroleum after an oil spill occurred.
The oil spill occurred on Friday at around 9.30 am within the South West Soldado Field, Gulf of Paria.
Heritage Petroleum Company Ltd issued a press release on Friday evening stating, “Immediate response protocols were activated and the source of the leak has been safely isolated. Cleanup operations began immediately and are ongoing in keeping with environmental safety protocols and best practice spill response measures.
“In accordance with standard operating procedures, Heritage has been providing regular updates to the relevant regulatory authorities. The company will provide timely updates as necessary.”
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) via media statement on Saturday stated that it has received reports of the incident.
“Since the incident was reported, the MEEI has remained fully engaged in assisting Heritage,” the release stated.
Kesar visited the area to receive in-person briefings on the ongoing incident management. Also present was Deputy Mayor of the Siparia Borough Corporation Shankar Teelucksingh.
They were both provided with a background on the incident, an update on the actions taken thus far and the planned activities in the upcoming operational periods, the media release stated.
The Ministry stated, “Discussions were focused on undertaking effective actions in mitigating the risks of further issues arising from the incident. Both Minister Kesar and Deputy Mayor Teelucksingh conveyed their continued support in providing any requisite assistance to Heritage in addressing this incident. The MEEI has assigned a technical team on the ground who are actively monitoring the response operation.”
