POLICE Commissioner Gary Griffith is making it clear that he will not be granting permission for the holding of any public event over the next 21 days.
“So do not bother to waste your ink,” was the advice he had for anyone wanting to ask for permission.
Speaking at the press conference of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on Thursday, he said everyday he received dozens of requests for the hosting of public events.
“It is like a road march template,” he said.
Griffith said all requests stated that there would be adherence to all Covid protocols.
He added, “If it is that you intend to adhere to all the Covid protocols then why write to me.”
Griffith said, “To start with I do not have authorisation to approve anything if it is in contrast to the regulations.”
He said, “As the Commissioner of Police, I would not be entertaining any request to approve any event with immediate effect especially over the next 21 days. So do not bother to waste your ink.”
Griffith referred to the new public health regulations in effect from midnight on Wednesday for the next 21 days after an upsurge on Covid-19 cases.
He said, “There is a very serious situation where the state has now intensified the Covid regulations for a reason; and I know we have a way always trying to beat the system and beating the system.”
