THERE is no evidence that Covid-19 will impact upon unborn babies.

This according to Dr Sally- Anne Ishmael, the acting head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

She was speaking during a Ministry of Health press conference on Tuesday.

Ishmael said public hospitals have made changes regarding pregnant women and there will be new clinic times, limited visiting as well as the reduction in the number of visitors.

She said pregnant women were likely to have mild to no symptoms of the Covid-19 and recover completely.

Ishmael noted that there was no evidence of Covid-19 impacting on the development of the foetus.

She said, “There is no evidence thus far that it (Covid-19) has any impact on the development of the baby, and there is very little supporting evidence that it is transmitted to the baby during pregnancy or during labour.”

Ishmael said due to social distancing, there were now limited visiting hours to health facilities.
