Newsday has begun legal proceedings to wind up its operations, signalling the closure of the newspaper after 32 years.

A public notice scheduled to appear in all daily newspapers on January 10 states that a petition to wind up Daily News Ltd, the publisher of Newsday, was filed on December 31, 2025, according to a story published by Newsday.

The first court hearing is set for January 19, 2026.

Managing director Grant Taylor said in a statement on January 9 that “a perfect storm of challenges has led to where we are now: closure.”
