THREE hundred primary school students will take part in the Aquatics Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) National Primary Schools’ Swim Meet at the Centre of Excellence Pool, Macoya, on Sunday.
The meet gets on the way at 9 am and defending champions Bishop Anstey Junior will look to continue their dominance amongst co-educational primary schools.
Blue Dolphin Swim Club (BDSC) will host the meet as they have done since 2006. Meet manager Shawn Pouchet, expects an enthused and energetic crowd as friends and family come to support their young charges.
He said, “Looking forward to an entertaining and exciting day of racing and passionate school support!”
A release from BDSC on Saturday stated that St Patrick’s (Newtown) Boys’ RC and Sacred Heart Girls’ RC will also aim to defend their crowns amongst boy and girl schools respectively.
It stated that 56 primary schools will take part along with five homeschooled swimmers and a contingent from Barbados participating as an exhibition team.
The top male and female development teams will be awarded.
The release stated that the meet will feature swimmers from as young as five years old to some of the top young age group swimmers nationally.
It stated, “This will be one of the last remaining racing opportunities before the Goodwill selection competition, the National Age Group Short Course Swimming Championships 2023, scheduled for July 2023.
“This will be the first national primary schools competition since 2019 given the lockdowns and restrictions from March 2020 through to 2022.”
