VETERAN calypsonian Dr Hollis Liverpool better known as Chalkdust is to be awarded Trinidad and Tobago’s highest award – the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Liverpool will receive his award from President Paula-Mae Weekes at the National Awards Ceremony at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port-of-Spain on Tuesday night.
The Office of the President said Liverpool will receive the award for Distinguished and Outstanding Service to Trinidad and Tobago.
Liverpool, an associate professor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, had received the Hummingbird Medal in 1976 for his work in culture.
He has won the Calypso Monarch competition nine times and is known for his stinging political commentaries.
Liverpool holds a PhD in History and Ethnomusicology from the University of Michigan.
