In this letter, Nakhid wrote, “In celebration of our country’s much treasured 60th Independence, I felt compelled that my contribution to those celebrations, should be one not of the usual symbolism of flag waving, champagne toasts and executive dinners, but one that would highlight and enhance what true independence brings to a nation.”

He stated that true independence was meant to ensure that independent institutions remain beyond and free from political interference in any shape, form or fashion.

Nakhid wrote, “To this effect, I was unable to attend even the Independence Day performances of Laventille Desperadoes, as a dossier of evidence against our independent nation’s two highest office holders President Paula Mae Weekes and Prime Minister Dr Keith Christopher Rowley along with former Chairman of the Police Service Commission Bliss Seepersad was compiled to unequivocally prove that these three office holders undermined the Constitution of the country, broke the law in halting the Merit list already in the hands of the President, destined for the Parliament.”
