UNITED National Congress (UNC) candidate for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal has criticised the People’s National Movement (PNM) administration, saying it is leaving under the same veil of scandal it entered government.

During the United National Congress Rally on Saturday, Moonilal said, “In these last few hours, Stuart Young has gone mad, he has gone cuckoo.”

He said, “Stuart Young says it’s not the PNM that closed down Petrotrin. So who closed down Petrotrin? The snow cone vendor at Aranguez?”

He also questioned the government’s claims of defending Trinidad and Tobago, saying, “They cannot defend you from a mosquito.”

Moonilal took aim at Young’s assertion that the Rowley-led administration was free of scandal, pointing to several controversies involving former and current ministers.

He said, “Marlene McDonald regrettably passed away before her matter could be concluded in court. Camille Robinson-Regis could not explain money she deposited into her bank account. Apartments in Tobago were sold at reduced prices to (former prime minister Dr Keith) Rowley and his family.”

As citizens prepare to vote Monday, Moonilal urged them to reflect on the last nine years, reminding them of Young’s role during the country’s lockdown, the treatment of the elderly, and the management of the recent pipeline disaster.

He said, “In the next 24 hours, you must remember Stuart Young locked down the country, he locked out our elderly, and presided over the pipeline disaster.”

Moonilal said the country now needs an experienced leader to guide it through the current challenges, endorsing United National Congress (UNC) leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

He said, “Today, we are going with an experienced prime ministerial candidate. Kamla Persad-Bissessar is the only one who can manage Trinidad and Tobago during this difficult time, she has the experience.”
