THERE is dissention in the Cabinet of Trinidad and Tobago.
This is the claim made by Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal during debate on a motion of no confidence in Minister of National Security Stuart Young on Wednesday.
Speaking in the Lower House, Dr Moonilal read from what he said was a screenshot taken from a WhatsApp chat called Members of Parliament.
He said the conversation was between Young and the general secretary of the People’s National Movement Government Foster Cummings.
Dr Moonilal said, “That is a remarkable screenshot from a chat called Members of Parliament and I recognise other names here who are colleagues who time and time again sit opposite me in this House.
“There is a war in the Cabinet, they are fighting among themselves in the cabinet over exemption policy.
“They come and put on a brave face today… today they put on a brave face and say all of agree and this is what happening January 19… a few days ago.”
He said there was disagreement on the exemption policy granted to nationals who want to enter the country.
But St Joseph MP Terrence Deyalsingh said the “the big mark that buss” during the debate was that Dr Moonilal said there “was dissention in the Cabinet because he got a screenshot by someone by the name of Foster Cummings has an opposite view.”
Deyalsingh added, “I sit in the Cabinet and there is no one by the name of Foster Cummings in the Cabinet of the Republic Trinidad and Tobago.”
Dr Moonilal subsequently posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat on his Facebook page. See below:
