OPPOSITION MP Dr Roodal Moonilal expressed satisfaction with the announcement made by Phillip Alexander, founder or current leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP), regarding the party’s decision to support the United National Congress (UNC) in the upcoming 2025 General Elections.
During a press conference on Sunday, Dr Moonilal said, “We are happy that Phillip Alexander, who I believe was the founder if not the current leader of People’s Progressive Party, has responded to that call in a press conference … the People’s Progressive Empowerment … the PEP … they have responded to the call and have indicated they will throw their weight behind the UNC and Mrs. Persad-Bissessar, so it’s something we welcome.”
While Dr Moonilal said that he had not been directly involved in any discussions with the PEP, bit noted that the decision to align with the UNC is a positive development, especially considering the current challenges faced by the country.
He hinted at potential discussions with other parties in the coming days, expressing optimism that more political entities may join the collaboration to address the country’s issues and work towards removing the People’s National Movement (PNM) from power.
Dr. Moonilal said that the collective effort of various parties with a shared interest in the country’s well-being could lead to a broader alliance against the incumbent PNM.
