THE Ministry of Education has confirmed that the new academic year will begin on September 1, 2020.
It’s been four months since all schools were closed, after the Ministry of Health recorded the first coronavirus case in Trinidad and Tobago on March 12.
This meant that the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) and other examinations had to be postponed.
Teachers and students had to resort to online classes with the ministry forced to implement certain measures to assist in the learning process.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said term one would end on December 11, 2020.
It added that terms two and three would begin in 2021, on January 4 and April 12 respectively, with classes to run for 12 weeks each.
The ministry said all teachers and students must attend school on the first day of each term, for a full day.
It stated that student attendance was mandatory up to the official date of the end of each term except term three for those writing external examinations.
These include the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).
The ministry noted that students were expected to attend school until the day before the first written exam at both levels.
It was recently announced that SEA students would return to school on July 20 to prepare for the exam to be done on August 20.
