OPPOSITION Senator Wade Mark is calling on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to immediately fire his Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi.
On Monday at a press conference, Mark said, “We call on you to immediately remove, dismiss, and fire Faris Al-Rawi from office and his post as AG and Minister of Legal Affairs.
“You have a duty to do so pending further enquiries into this matter,” was the message sent to the prime minister.
He enquired why Adrian Scoon was not taken in for questioning by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in regards to the operation of the MV Ocean Pelican as a floating restaurant.
“Is it because he is a friend of the Attorney General?” Mark asked,
He called on Acting Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob to say whether he received a call from the AG and demanded to know the nature of the conversation.
Mark stated no one was charged and there were over 100 persons on the Ocean Pelican on Boxing Day.
He asked Jacob to intervene due to the serious nature of the matter where the character, good name and profession of the TTPS were questioned by Scoon and the legal advisor to the Government.
He said, “The two men continue to say they never called and there was no conversation between them and dthe TTPS represented by Sgt Adams of the Carenage Police Station.”
Mark said, “You need to get TSTT or Digicel to provide information on all calls that were made to the phone of the AG during that period of investigation.
“You need to take Al-Rawi’s cellphone and link up through the appropriate warrants with either Digicel, TSTT or both to get to the bottom of this matter. As they were trying to discredit the TTPS and also trying to make out the policeman in question at the Carenage Police Station as a liar.”
However, Mark also suggested that similar action be taken against the other Government officials involved as, “No one is above the law, not the CoP, Faris, the Minister of Trade and Industry the Minister of Health.”
He also warned Prime Minister Dr Rowley that silence was not an option at this time.
“You cannot remain silent in the face of this criminal development in our country. You cannot treat one set of citizens differently from another set.
“Pending further criminal investigations, you have a duty and a responsibility in upholding the law and ensuring integrity and fairness.”
Mark said the AG should be charged with misbehaviour in public office based on his conduct and activities.
