Lovelace to Deliver Constitutional Address at Balisier House

Port of Spain – RENOWNED writer Earl Lovelace will deliver an address shedding light on the role of young people and the relevance of the constitution to national development on Saturday.

The address takes place from 3.30 pm at Balisier House, 1 Tranquility Street, Port of Spain.

A release from the The People’s National Movement (PNM) on Friday stated that this follows the appointment of a ten-member working committee during the General Council meeting on January 20, 2024. The committee, tasked with consultations and the development of the PNM’s stance on constitutional reform for Trinidad and Tobago, will be chaired by the Port of Spain South MP and attorney Keith Scotland.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley had announced a National Advisory Committee to formulate terms of reference for a national consultation on constitutional reform comprising former House Speaker Barendra Sinanan (Chairman); Dr Terrence Farrell; Raye Sandy; Jackie Sampson-Miguel; Winston Rudder; Nizam Mohammed; and Hema Narinesingh.

The release stated that the establishment of the PNM committee aligns with the National Advisory Committee.

It stated, “The PNM therefore, will be an active participant with a consolidated opinion in the wider national consultations.

“The PNM’s Committee will engage with a wide cross-section of party members via a series of consultations with the various arms of the party. These consultations commence tomorrow, Saturday 9, March 2024, when the Committee meets with the National Youth League and young citizens of the nation. Prolific writer Mr. Earl Lovelace will deliver a special address to the young people on the issue of the role of young people and the relevance of the constitution to the national development.”
