LGE 2023: 10 Parties, 373 Candidates

ON Local Government Election (LGE) day, 373 persons will be contesting the election for various political parties.

Ten political parties have put forward candidates to contest the election on August 14.


The People’s National Movement (PNM) is the only political party with candidates in all 141 electoral districts, the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) stated in a media release on Tuesday.

The other nine parties fielding candidates are:

  • Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) 

  • National Transformation Alliance (NTA) 

  • Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) 

  • Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) 

  • Re-United Farmers Alliance 

  • The National Party (TNP) 

  • Trinidad Humanity Campaign (THC) 

  • United National Congress (UNC) 

  • Unity of The People (UTP)


The EBC also revealed that there will be six independent candidates in the respective electoral districts:

  • Belmont South – Vivian Johnson 

  • Pleasantville – Dixie-Ann Elliot 

  • Hollywood – Irvin Samuel Felix 

  • Mayaro South/Guayaguayare – Kendell Michael Hagley 

  • Valencia West – Gwendolyn Alana Charles 

  • Blanchisseuse/Santa Rosa – Kathleen Washington
