Dear Editor,
Here’s why I’m proudly endorsing MP for Couva North Ravi Ratiram as the next leader of the United National Congress.
Recently, I have been getting lots of questions asking me who I would suggest the UNC replace Kamla with. After much reflection, I’ve finally decided who I believe should lead the United National Congress into the future. It’s none other than the one and only Ravi Ratiram.

Yes, Ravi Ratiram—the man, the myth, the walking punchline. Who better to lead the UNC into a glorious new era of irrelevance? Ravi represents everything the party has come to stand for in recent years: incoherence, controversy, and a baffling lack of self-awareness.
First and foremost, Ravi is a man of amazing insight and intellect —armed with a stellar track record of razor sharp public statements that have left many supporters in awe.

Remember when Ravi eloquently dissected the complex socio economic issues in the budget drawing on economic thinkers like Hayek and Friedman by declaring: “Madam speaker this is a dumb budget”,
Or how about when Ravi used his knowledgeable insight into world affairs to tell a UNC audience that “The UNC is the most popular party in the Western Hemisphere.” Of course, Ravi must think the Western Hemisphere extends from Chaguanas to Couva.
And, who could forget the time Ravi championed the freedom of men and women across our land when he called for an end of what he described as the “toilet tax” at City Gate.
Yes, Ravi’s passionate stand against the $1 bathroom fee at City Gate was nothing short of groundbreaking. Anyone could see that this was the most oppressive law since video clubs fined you for not rewinding your movies when you returned them.
While lesser minds debated trivial matters like crime and economic collapse, Ravi boldly declared war on paying to pee. Truly, a man of the people.
If you have had the privilege to witness Ravi debate in Parliament you would know he has a unique ability to bring both the PNM and UNC members together… to ask, “Wait, how is this guy even here?”.
His Parliamentary speeches have a magical quality—half insult, half incoherent rambling—that often leaves the Speaker wondering, “Is Ravi being serious, or is this some kind of performance art?”

Not content with being an orator par excellence, Ravi has mastered the art of being simultaneously dim-witted and off-putting, a rare combination that ensures he won’t alienate just one demographic., he alienates everyone equally.
In a time when the UNC needs bold, transformative leadership, who better to helm the ship than Ravi? Under his guidance, the party can finally achieve the unthinkable: making even the most ardent supporters consider switching to the PNM.

So yes, I stand proudlyy behind Ravi Ratiram. He is the leader the UNC deserves—: because why aim for the stars when you can dig a hole straight into political irrelevance?
