Laventille Teen Held for Snatching Cellphone

A LAVENTILLE teenager, 16, who snatched a cell phone from a woman in Port-of-Spain has been arrested.

Police reported on Monday that officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) were on mobile patrol along Frederick Street on Sunday, when they were stopped by a 48-year-old woman who stated that a young man snatched her phone from her hand and ran off.

The teen was last seen proceeding along Charlotte Street. The officers made checks for the suspect along with the woman who was able to identify him walking along Charlotte Street.

On seeing the officers, he began running and a chase ensued. The suspect was apprehended along Charlotte Street in the vicinity of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

A search was conducted on the teen and the cell phone was discovered on his person.

The suspect, of Block Eight, Laventille, was arrested and taken to the Belmont Police Station where investigations are continuing.
