NEW DELHI: The Board for Control of Cricket in India has put to rest speculation about splitting the captaincy of the national team by appointing Virat Kohli for all formats of the game in the upcoming series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

Announcing the squad in Mumbai on Sunday, chief selector MSK Prasad informed that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the one-ball leg of the tour according to the Times of India.

Hardik Pandya will play no role in the tour as he is being rested as part of a workload management program.

Shikar Dhawan, who was injured in the World Cup match against Australia is fit and makes a comeback to the One-Day International squad.

Opening batsman Rohit Sharma, who was the leading run-scorer of the recently concluded World Cup in England and Wales was selected for all formats in the series and will be Kohli’s understudy in the ODIs and T20s.

Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed were also named in the ODI squad.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Wriddhiman Saha returns to the Test line-up after a year-long injury lay-off and after undergoing shoulder surgery. He last played Test cricket in January 2018 in South Africa.

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar is the only new face in India’s T20 squad and has been rewarded for his consistency in the IPL and domestic cricket.

India will bowl off their tour on August 3 and play three T20s, a similar number of ODIs and two Test matches. It will be India’s first assignment after the semi-final loss by 18 runs to New Zealand in the World Cup earlier this month.
