NARINE MARAJ who was kidnapped on Saturday along with his wife Mattie Maharaj has escaped from his kidnappers.
His wife however has still not yet been found.
Narine Maharaj, 62, reported to police that he was able to free himself after being tied up and fled towards a main road, flagging down help from people on the street, late Sunday evening.
According to Narine Maharaj, he discovered he was being kept in a forested area in the vicinity of the Valencia Main Road.
Officers from the Special Operations Response Team (SORT), the Anti-Kidnapping, the Northern Division Task Force, and the Air Support Unit, responded and searches were conducted in the area.
Three persons were held in connection with the kidnapping.
Narine Maharaj and his 54-year-old wife had left their home in St Helena at around 5.30 pm on Saturday to visit their farm along 3B’s Drive, Piarco in their vehicle – a silver Ford Focus but did not get a chance to return home that day.
An hour later a ransom of $2 million was demanded for their safe return.
The vehicle with registered licensed plate PCC 1786 was also taken.
