PROVIDENCE – THE Guyana Amazon Warriors opened their Hero CPL 2019 campaign with a 13-run win over the St Lucia Zouks on Thursday night.
Batting first after losing the toss, the Warriors posted 155 for 9 with a top score of 38 by Keemo Paul. He hit three sixes and three fours off 22 balls.
Captain Shoaib Malik, batting at No 4 got to 28 as did Chris Green who would eventually be adjudged Man of the Match as he took two wickets for 28 runs with the ball.
At the Zouk’s turn at the crease, the burly Rahkeem Cornwall, who opened with Andre Fletcher, top scored with 36 off just 14 balls. He hit seven fours and one six.
Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers finishing with three for 16 in his four overs.
Zouks required 17 runs off the last over with one wicket in hand but Ben Laughlin proved too good for tail enders Fawad Ahmed and Krishmar Santokie.
