THERE is no Covid-19 spike due to the previous vaccination chaos across various sites in Trinidad on June 9.
On Wednesday, epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds said the overcrowding situation was taken into consideration.
In giving his epidemiological update during the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference, Dr Hinds mentioned that there was an increase in the elderly dying from Covid-19.
However, he said any increase in cases was not linked to the event.
Dr Hinds said, “What we are seeing is a steady increase over a time frame that actually preceded that incident where there were people lining up for a time period which was reasonably short.
“We actually looked for bump or increase or spike in the two-week mark after that particular event and we actually did not see one.”
Dr Hinds said the possibilities could have been because the rush was at a limited number of places and duration was cut short by crowd dispersion.
“The event itself may not have had the time to generate the spike that we may have been looking for,” he said.
He said, “Because it was what you would call a point event, an event where people go out in large numbers for one particular thing, then that point event, you would expect to have a point outcome sometime later.”
Dr Hinds said the reason why the ministry kept emphasising vaccination especially for the over 60 age group was because of their vulnerability.
