“The fact is, the Opposition party represents perhaps the only hope,” – John Jeremie

FORMER Attorney General John Jeremie, SC, says he is very scared about the future of Trinidad and Tobago especially under a People’s National Movement (PNM) government, the government he was once part of.
He further endorsed the United National Congress (UNC) in a panel discussion with former PNM mayor for Port-of-Spain Louis Lee Sing and PNM stalwart Professor Selwyn Cudjoe.
Paid political meeting
The discussion on UNC’s social media pages was shared on Tuesday morning following Jeremie’s surprise public endorsement on Monday night at a UNC campaign meeting in the Siparia constituency.
Jeremie said, “For me to be here today, doing something that is not in my comfort zone, should tell you how scared I am for the future of this country.”
Lee Sing asked how they felt about the state of affairs within the PNM.
Cudjoe responded, “Major contradiction of the PNM. Once they got into power, they betrayed the people who put them into power.”
Jeremie said there was an abandonment of a large section of its traditional and core people.
Cudjoe added that it led to instability.
Lee Sing further asked, “Do you believe your party has stood for you.”
Jeremie replied, “The fact is, the Opposition party represents perhaps the only hope.”
On Monday night, Jeremie spoke highly about UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, a person he has known since his days at university.
Persad-Bissessar who spoke right after Jeremie, walked around the stage a bit with him holding his hand and waving to supporters while the UNC’s theme song “When UNC wins, everybody wins” played in the background.
Referring to him as her “brother in law” she said encouraged supporters to give him loud applause for his presence at the meeting and on the platform.
“The UNC welcomes him,” Persad-Bissessar.
